THE SPRING CLASS

Six months in.

Alex, eleven dogs went home in March and April. Here are three of them settled in, one tip from the fosters, and a dog who is still waiting for his turn.

SETTLING-IN TIP

Three days, three weeks, three months.

That's about how long a new dog takes to decompress, learn the routine and feel at home. Week two is often the hardest, when the honeymoon fades and the testing starts. Hold the routine and it passes.

STILL WAITING

Walter, 6, likes couches

Nine months in foster. Housetrained, fine with cats, happiest asleep on someone's feet. Needs a quieter home without small children.

Meet Walter

“She spent the first week under the kitchen table. Now she sleeps on the bed, which we swore she never would.”
