Magazine cover newsletter template with contents

Some newsletters deserve a cover. A numbered issue with a cover story, a contents list and a letters page, in the same order every time, tells readers what to expect and gives them a reason to open the next one.

What's in this template

  1. Red cover top: issue number, edition and the title in large type
  2. Tall portrait cover photo
  3. Cover headline, a one-line promise and a Plus line
  4. Contents list of 3 stories with page numbers and teasers
  5. Feature opener: headline, lead, one paragraph and a link
  6. Black letters band with a reader's quote
  7. Closing call to action to read the full issue

When to use it

Issue-based publications are the fit: a weekly or monthly letter with a main story, a few short pieces and reader mail. Writers, local papers, clubs and trade newsletters that number their issues will recognize the format.

Make it yours

  • Number the issue, name the cover story and drop in a cover photo.
  • Write three contents lines, one for each piece you will actually link to.
  • Replace the reader quote with a real letter, or delete the band.
