Fix a failed payment

Billing & plansUpdated

Retry the charge or update your card from Settings → Plan & billing before your subscription lapses. Sending stays blocked until the payment goes through.

A failed charge puts your subscription into past due: sending is blocked at any tier until it’s fixed (see Why sending is blocked), but nothing is cancelled yet. Stripe keeps retrying in the background, and you can fix it yourself sooner in a couple of clicks.

You’ll see a banner at the top of Plan & billing: “Your last payment failed. Retry now or update your card.”

The red banner on Settings, Plan and billing reading Your last payment failed. Retry now or update your card, with Retry payment and Update card buttons.

  1. Go to Settings → Plan & billing.
  2. Select Retry payment to charge your existing card again immediately, or Update card first if the card itself is the problem: expired, replaced, or the original decline reason.
  3. If the retry succeeds: “Payment successful. Your subscription is back on track.” Sending is unblocked right away.
  4. If it’s declined again, you’ll see the decline reason and a prompt to update your card. If you had more than one unpaid invoice, EmailFig retries the oldest first. A message tells you how many already went through before the decline, so you know exactly which one to resolve.

If payments keep failing

If the charge keeps failing, Stripe eventually stops retrying and marks the subscription unpaid or canceled. At that point Retry payment has nothing left to retry, and Plan & billing points you at Manage billing to resubscribe instead. See Cancel or resume your subscription.
