Choose your audience

CampaignsUpdated

How your lists, an optional segment and your exclusions add up to the people who receive a campaign.

Your campaign goes to everyone on the lists you choose, plus anyone an optional segment matches, with duplicates removed so no one gets it twice. EmailFig then takes out anyone you’ve excluded, anyone who has unsubscribed, and anyone on your suppression list.

  1. On the Setup step’s Audience card, under Send to these lists, tick every list you want to send to. The recipient count at the bottom of the card updates as you change your selection.
  2. To narrow the send further, open More targeting — exclusions & segments:
    • Exclude these lists: anyone on an excluded list is dropped from the send, even if they’re also on a list you’re sending to.
    • Also send to a segment: adds everyone the segment matches on top of the lists above, rather than filtering them down. See Build a segment with the rule builder.
  3. The line at the bottom of the card, “N people will receive this campaign”, is your live count after exclusions, unsubscribes and suppressions.

Unsubscribing from a list wins, even through a segment

If someone unsubscribes from a list you’re sending to, a segment can’t pull them back in for this campaign. A list unsubscribe holds for every campaign that targets that list.

If nobody’s selected

If you haven’t picked a list or segment, or your choice resolves to nobody once exclusions and suppressions apply, Review’s “What’s left” checklist tells you. See Why the Send button is disabled.
