Create a list
Make a list, decide whether signups confirm by email, and get contacts onto it.
Go to Lists, click New list, give it a Name, and click Create. A campaign sends to lists, so you need at least one before you can send.
Create it
- Open Lists from the sidebar and click New list.
- Enter a Name. Your recipients see this if you show the list as a topic on your preference centre, so name it the way you’d describe it to them: “Monthly newsletter”, not “list_2”.
- Add a Description if you like. It shows under the name on the preference centre too.
- Under Signup confirmation, tick Double opt-in if people joining through a signup form should confirm by email first. Recommended for any public form; see Set up double opt-in on a list.
- Click Create.
Get contacts onto it
From the list’s own page:
- New contact adds one person by hand.
- Import contacts opens the CSV importer with this list already selected. See Import contacts from a CSV.
- A signup form points at exactly one list. See Create an embedded signup form.
You can also add people in bulk from the Contacts page: filter, tick the rows, then choose Add to list. See Bulk actions on contacts.
Reading the list page
- Subscribers are members who can be emailed: subscribed to your account, and subscribed to this list.
- All members is every membership row, including people who opted out of this list or haven’t confirmed yet.
The tabs above the members table (All members, Subscribed, Unsubscribed, Pending) show who sits in the gap. The table names both statuses per person: On this list and Account status.

How many lists should I have?
One per thing a person can consent to. If someone might want your product updates but not your events invitations, those are two lists, and shown as topics on your preference centre a recipient can drop one without leaving entirely.
Don’t split a list to describe people. “Customers”, “attended the webinar”, “trial users” are tags, and a segment turns any of those into an audience.
Editing and deleting
Edit list changes the name, description and double opt-in setting. Deleting is on the same screen. A list won’t delete while something live still depends on it: a campaign that targets or excludes it, a segment rule that names it, an automation, a running import, or a live signup form. The message names the blocker. See Why I can’t delete this list or tag.
