Why is my form turning signups away?

Forms & landing pagesUpdated

A form on a double opt-in list needs a verified sending domain and a From email before it can take signups. The same fix clears a Live, can't confirm badge.

Your form’s list uses double opt-in, so every new signup gets a confirmation email from your own address. EmailFig can’t send that email until you have a verified sending domain and a Default from email on it. Until then the form saves and stays live, but it turns new signups away.

The editor tells you. Under Add to list you’ll see “This account can’t send the confirmation email yet.” And above the preview:

This form is turning every new signup away. Its list uses double opt-in, so every new signup needs a confirmation email, and this account can’t send one yet.

On a landing page it says “page” instead of “form”. On a paused form it says the form will turn new signups away once it’s resumed.

A form on a list without double opt-in takes signups without a sending domain.

Fix it

  1. Go to Settings → Sending domains, then add and verify a domain you own. See Add and verify a sending domain.
  2. On the same page, under Sending defaults, set Default from email to an address on that domain.
  3. Go back to the form. The warning has gone, and new signups get their confirmation email.

The Live, can’t confirm badge

A live form shows Live, can’t confirm on Grow and in its editor, with a banner above the preview, when your account can’t send confirmation emails. For example, you haven’t verified a sending domain yet, or yours stopped verifying.

  • On a double opt-in list, every new signup needs that email, so the banner says “This form is turning every new signup away.”
  • On a list without double opt-in, only people who unsubscribed before need to confirm by email to come back, so the banner says “This form is turning some signups away.”

Visitors still see the usual success message, so the badge and banner are your only warning. Fix your sending domain as above and they clear. Anyone who was turned away needs to sign up again.

“Double opt-in can’t be enabled yet”, on the list’s settings: live forms add people to that list. Fix your sending domain as above, or pause those forms first.
