Why the Send button is disabled

CampaignsUpdated

Everything that has to be in place before a campaign sends, what each line under Review's "What's left" checklist means, and exactly how to clear it.

The Review step’s What’s left checklist shows everything still to do before a campaign can send, and each line links straight to its fix. Clear the last one and it turns into a single green line: “Ready to send — N people will receive this email.” This article explains each line.

The items fall into two groups: your account, which you set up once, and the campaign itself.

About your account

These five all show up as one line, “Your account isn’t ready to send yet →”, which points you at whichever one applies:

About this campaign

  • “Give this campaign a name”: go to Setup and fill in Name.
  • “Choose a verified sending domain”: go to Setup and pick a domain, or add and verify one first.
  • “Choose who receives this”: go to Setup’s Audience card and tick at least one list, or add a segment. See Choose your audience.
  • “Fix the segment that no longer compiles”: the segment you picked points at a list, tag or campaign that’s since been deleted. Edit the segment, or choose a different one, on Setup.
  • “Set a subject line”: go to Setup and fill in Subject.
  • “Set a from email”: go to Setup and fill in From email.
  • “Add content to this campaign”: go to Content and write or apply a template.
  • “Add a mailing address in settings”: go to Settings → Unsubscribes and fill in Mailing address. See What every email must include.
  • “Add {{ unsubscribe_url }} to the footer”: your content is missing the unsubscribe merge tag. Add it back to the footer on Content.
  • “Add {{ account.physical_address }} to the footer”: the same, for the mailing address tag.
  • “Choose an audience that has recipients”: you’ve picked a list or segment, but after exclusions, unsubscribes and suppressions it comes out to nobody. Pick a different list or segment on Setup. See Contact statuses explained and Suppressions: why an address can’t be re-added.

The one check this list doesn’t cover

None of the above looks at whether your content will pass review. Every campaign is screened for link safety and content after you click send, so a campaign can clear What’s left, start sending, and still end up in review or failed. See Is my content allowed?.
