Switching a campaign's template replaces its content

Templates & contentUpdated

Choosing a different template for a campaign overwrites what you've written. EmailFig checks with you first, but there's no undo after you confirm.

Switching to a different template on a campaign replaces its content, not just its design. EmailFig checks with you first, but once you confirm there’s no way to get the old content back.

How it works

A template’s content is copied into a campaign once, when you apply it; after that the two aren’t linked. Editing the original template later doesn’t change a campaign that already used it, and choosing a different template overwrites whatever you’ve customised since.

On a campaign’s Template step, clicking Use template on any template other than the one in use replaces the campaign’s content. If you’ve made changes since the template was applied, you’ll see a confirmation first:

Switching templates replaces this campaign’s content — continue?

Confirming applies the new template and discards what was there. If the campaign has no content of its own yet, the swap happens with no prompt. Re-selecting the template already in use changes nothing.

The confirmation dialog when you switch templates, reading Switching templates replaces this campaign’s content, continue?, with Cancel and Switch buttons.

Starting over from scratch (the Drag & drop / HTML buttons on the same step) works the same way, with its own confirmation: Start over with a blank email? This replaces the campaign’s current content.

Before you switch

Not sure? Save your current content first. Review → Save as template copies the campaign as it stands into a new template, kept safe whatever you do to the campaign afterwards. See Save a campaign as a template.
