Turn off two-factor authentication

Account & securityUpdated

Disabling 2FA needs two separate proofs, a current authenticator or recovery code, plus a freshly emailed code, rather than just one.

Turning off two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for two separate proofs, not just one.

  1. Go to Settings > Security, and under Two-factor authentication, find Disable 2FA.
  2. Enter a current code from your authenticator app, or one of your recovery codes, in the TOTP or recovery code field.
  3. Select Disable 2FA. A dialog asks you to confirm it’s you with a second, separate code emailed to you.
  4. Enter that emailed code and confirm. 2FA is disabled, your recovery codes are cleared, and a security alert email is sent.
