Turn on double opt-in confirmation

Forms & landing pagesUpdated

Require every new signup to confirm by email before they're subscribed. It's a setting on the list, not the form.

Double opt-in isn’t a form setting, it’s a setting on the list a form adds people to. Turn it on for a list and every form pointed at that list, embed or landing page, requires the visitor to click a confirmation link before they’re subscribed. See Set up double opt-in on a list for how it affects the list itself.

Turn it on

  1. Open the list your form adds signups to (Add signups to on an embedded form, or Adds subscribers to in a landing page’s Page settings).
  2. On the Edit list screen, tick Double opt-in.
  3. Save.

EmailFig recommends double opt-in for any list fed by a public form: nobody can subscribe an address that isn’t theirs, and you get a clear record of consent for every subscriber.

What changes for the form

A signup on a double opt-in list is recorded as pending, not subscribed, and EmailFig sends the visitor a confirmation email from your account’s own address. They become a subscriber, count towards billing, and receive campaigns only once they click the link.

Every submission shows the same “check your email” message, whether the address is brand new, already subscribed, or something else, so the response never reveals whether an address is already on your list. On the Grow hub, the embedded forms table shows a Confirmed count for double opt-in lists; for a single opt-in list that column reads “—”.

You’ll need a verified sending domain

Sending that confirmation email requires a sending domain verified for your account, matching your account’s From address. A form on a double opt-in list can’t go live until that’s in place. See Why my double opt-in form won’t go live.
