Acceptable use policy

Sending policy & reviewUpdated

The plain-English version: what you can send through EmailFig, and what happens if a campaign or import trips a rule.

The short version: send only to people who asked to hear from you, and send them something you’d be happy to have your name on. The binding text is the Acceptable Use Policy, part of our Terms of Service. This article covers what those rules mean day to day.

Permission is the whole rule

Every list needs a real answer to “how did this person end up here?”. A checkout, a signup form, a signed contract, or an existing business relationship that CASL or CAN-SPAM recognises as implied consent all work. “I found their address” never does.

You may not:

  • Upload a purchased, rented, harvested or scraped list, even if every address is real
  • Import from a co-registration or lead-generation source where the recipients didn’t clearly agree to hear from you specifically
  • Use EmailFig to work out whether a set of addresses is valid or active
  • Re-import an address that unsubscribed or was suppressed on your account (it won’t work anyway; see Suppressions)

Content that isn’t allowed

You may not send:

  • Phishing, malware, or anything designed to compromise a recipient’s account, device or funds
  • Deceptive subject lines, sender names or claims: the “from” a recipient sees must be who’s actually sending
  • Illegal goods or services, or content that infringes someone else’s intellectual property
  • Hate speech, harassment, or content that threatens or incites harm
  • Multi-level marketing, “get rich quick” or cryptocurrency schemes built around recruiting rather than a real product
  • Adult content to a general list rather than one that specifically opted into it

What every campaign must carry

A working unsubscribe link and your physical postal address. EmailFig won’t let you send without both. See What every email must include.

How sends are checked

A few checks run in the background: lists are checked at import, links are checked against a maintained blocklist of known-bad destinations, and campaigns get an automated content check before they send, with a member of staff reading some before they go out. We keep the exact signals general on purpose. The standard is the one at the top of this page: real permission, honest content.

What happens if something trips

Outcome What it looks like What you do
Campaign held in review badge, and nothing else on the account sends Wait, or cancel it
Campaign blocked failed, with a generic reason on the campaign page Revise it, or write to us
Import rejected The import fails and sending stops on the whole account Email us to get sending switched back on
Account suspended Nothing sends anywhere on the account Email us

A hold isn’t a failure: a held campaign simply waits, and we email you either way. A suspension stops sending but leaves your contacts, lists, templates and reports untouched.

Not sure? Ask before you send

If you’re unsure whether something is allowed, email support@emailfig.com and describe it. A real person replies, and it’s faster than finding out after a hold.
